

Tours generally focus on the 1864 Shenandoah Valley Campaign. Other tours include the battle of Ball's Bluff in 1861, Drewry's Bluff in 1862 and Gettysburg in 1863. Tours are a combination of driving and some walking. These tours can be tailored to the needs of the client. All of our tours are guided by Dr. Rick Quest, educator, historian and author.
Price for a single battlefield tour is $175 for up to four people. Group rates of more than four people are available upon request. It is preferred that you ride with your guide in his vehicle for your convenience and enjoyment. Individual battlefield tours may be combined to create a full day tour experience. Price for full day tours will vary based on location and number of battlefields selected. Call or email for details. Payment is accepted in cash, check or Venmo.
The duration of a single battlefield tour is generally 2-3 hours. Tours are customizable based on what the client would like to see and cover. Multiple battlefield tours may be combined to create a full day tour experience.
Dr. Richard "Rick" Quest is an educator, historian, author and battlefield guide.
Originally from upstate New York Rick began his career in education as a high school history teacher. He has held administrative positions in K-12 as an Elementary and High School Principal and higher education as a Dean and Associate Vice President. He is the founder of Books in Homes, USA a non- profit literacy organization that has provided over 1 million books to children across the country. He also recently founded History Scientific a non profit focused on exploring history using science and technology.
Rick has appeared on the Author’s Voice in Chicago, was featured on Civil War Talk Radio, and was a guest on the Battlefields and Bourbon podcast episodes 45 and 46. He is a frequent speaker at civil war roundtables and seminars. Rick is the author of the book “I Held Lincoln: A Union Sailor’s Journey Home” published by the University of Nebraska Press in 2018. This book features new exciting research regarding the Lincoln Assassination, tales of harrowing escapes from confederate prisons and insight into naval history and battles.
Rick earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Anthropology and Social Sciences from Binghamton University (SUNY), New York and he completed his Doctorate in Educational Organization and Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where he focused his dissertation on the importance of teaching local history in high school. He and his wife Patti currently reside near Winchester, VA.
